Reality is malleable

"An Awful big Adventure" by Tim Walker in UK December Vogue

(last poem for the zine, it's not even a poem....it might just be the way I speak)

I recall what never happened with perfect clarity
Some call me liar
But I call me a storyteller
A fact and fiction weaver
An oral enthusiast
(please insert fellatio joke where you see fit)
It was forgettable
Spin it
Tell it, don’t talk it
They’ll remember
For reality is malleable
Paper is shredable
And I would literally die
if I could not exaggerate
A new language created from butchering the old
Now I communicate falsities with aggressive confidence

Something about a woman and a snake

.....makes one's mind flicker - penis joke, wait, britneyspears - wait! Mr. Smith's 4th grade pet. oh yeah, there was that whole religious situation where Eve had taken to chatting up the snake in the garden of eden.
Well evidently Eve got her apple, her knowledge, and some lovely jewelry.

what others are making

Since I'm currently creatively stunted due to my camera getting stolen and my jewelry supplies in michigan, I've taken to singing loudly in the streets (you feel like you're in a movie and in a city of self-talking crazies no one really notices.) Then I've been going to galleries (more acceptable/predictable behavior) to see what people that are actually successful in the art world are doing.

Terry Richardson's show "Mom and Dad" at the Half Gallery
Terry's show was what you'd expect from him...portraits and objects on a white wall with flash. But I loved it because I love his Dad, a new love of mine. I didn't even know Bob was a photographer himself until recently. Terry had his father's voicemails playing, saying things like "they say if the mother is a jew the child is a jew, but I sent her to the corner store and baptized you while she was gone" or "sucking dick is a acquired taste like caviar"

Standing upon Terry's youthful face, hearing his dad's voice, and being flicked off by his mother simultaneously was a great way to be immersed in the Richardson fam.

Maurizio Cattelan's show "All" at the Guggenheim
Can't stress it enough - This is one of the greatest shows I've seen in a long time! Any show at the Guggenheim is always competing with the building itself...while in line to go in the museum, the Germans I was standing near seemed quite content just photographing the white coils outside. But Cattelan's show hung in the solely in the rotunda...a show at the Guggenheim with NOTHING on the walls. Love this man for his wit, outrageousness, and subtle messages he sends you while still slappin' you across the face.

You have to use the climb of the building to see the show in its entirety. Thus, the show and the building no longer compete, they're essential to each other. BBBAHHHHH (and other noises I can't translate to type), but it's just brilliant. If you're in New York City, go to this show.

Dressing like an "Heiress of the Guinness Family"

Yesterday I went to the Daphne Guinness exhibit at the FIT Museum. The typical museum pamphlets that  are given upon entering a exhibit were no where to be found, instead there were sealed envelopes with an "invitation" to Ms. Guinness's show. I expect no less and I was not disappointed.  I love Daphne for many reasons, not just her ability to wear McQueen on the streets. She's not a 20 something running around wearing incredible designers on her back that she has no understanding of nor is she playing dress-up (Lady Gaga style). She is a grown woman of wealth and history which is exactly what projects....with a large splash of intensity and craze. At the very least, I appreciate her point of view and commitment to it.

“I’m not eccentric!  I’m very level-headed.  Not eccentric, imaginative!  When people say you are eccentric, they are trying to do you down or say you’re crazy.”

Americans Love Lists

It's true, that's why magazines always advertise lists on their covers (it's not just Cosmopolitan telling you "69 Ways to Turn Him On"- HIM seems too popular in that mag if you ask me)

But given that I just started typing out my To Do List in my last post...I was in a list mood when I stumbled across this one.

Or just do this.........

One Month

It's been just over a month of living in New York and still feel as though I've experienced nothing....this place is too damn big.

However I accomplished the number one thing on my NYC To-Do list -
1. GET A JOB! CHECK
2. Get a job where I can wear plaid in SOHO. CHECK
3. Get robbed. (didn't actually plan on that one) CHECK
4. Be an extra and fake talk on your phone. CHECK
5. See someone that's famous that kind of excites you. Freja Beha. CHECK.

Alas there's still more to do....it's new york.
6. Go see maurizio cattelan's show at the gugges.

7. Find the right coffeeshop
8. Wicked and Book of Mormon
9. Ice Skating
10. keep living the dream, I suppose.

Very New , New York.

So it's been one week in New York........how?

Patience is a virtue that I'm pretty light on. But life here has treated me well thus far. People told me they think New York and I will have a lovely affair.....I'm not looking to be a mistress (this time around)...this might be my first long-term relationship I've had (never really been one for commitment).

So here's the list with more to come provided I can get employed and keep funding my lists of NYC/Brooklyn enjoyment.

Week One:

Black Rabbit (Greenpoint) - thats where I'm writing this post from in perfect bar lighting
Blue Bottle (Williamsburg) - Best cold brew coffee I've ever had in my life and Sam Cooke for hours
Grumpy's Cafe (Greenpoint) - coffee that's too good for me to appreciate properly
Atlas Cafe  (Williamsburg) - to listen to good music, use the internet, and listen to people speaking Italian
Lit Lounge (East Village) - "I just wanna dance"
Sly Fox (East Village) - for those Ukrainian at heart with a light wallet
The NYC Ballet - A ballerina fell, like a small bird who's wings didn't work properly
Spoonbill & Sugartown, Booksellers  (Williamsburg) - newest moleskin provider
SPiN - if you must play ping pong with the intensity of Forest Gump
Fair Puck - Delicious drinks that remind me of Ally Bar at twice the cost
3rd Ward (Bushwick)- take classes and see people that are actually paid to create (also known as living the dream)
Catbird  (Williamsburg) - to see your favorite etsy seller's work in the flesh
SVA Theater - to listen to Diane Arbus give a lecture from the dead

Not mentioned are all the lovely grocery stores that sold me apples when the coffee shakes were too strong.
'Til next week's list.
